Did you know that playing card games has been a favorite since the 9th century AD? For centuries, people have gathered together at parties and recreational events and exchanged cards. The first known deck of cards originated in China but the cards we are most familiar with now were not developed until the early 19th century and since then have continued to grow in popularity.
Although card games spread rapidly from Asia to European countries, it was not until merchant ships first landed on the North American coast that card games first arrived in the United States. Minor changes have been made to adjust the games to conform to Western standards and gradually, but certainly, the games we are accustomed to today were born.
Over the years, there have been three such card games we have made a name for ourselves. Most people are aware of these three games and may have played them at some point in their lives. What makes these games so popular is that they use a standard card, the rules are easy to read and can be easily played by a group of people in any circle – not to mention the fun!

1. Solitaire
Listed as the third most popular card game on our list by Solitaire. The game was originally called Patience and its origins can be traced back to the 1600s in Germany. It is played using a 52-card deck and the main objective is to end the game with a bunch of cards, per suit. These piles should rise sequentially Ace down and end with the king at the top. What makes this game so popular is that it can be played anywhere and you do not need anyone else to play it. And it is a strong competition against you, which is why many find this game attractive. You challenge yourself to beat the last and your level of previous skill.
It gained more popularity in the 1990s when Windows released its 3.0 version that includes both minesweeper and Solitaire games online. The game flooded the nation, became a common way to pass time in both offices and school buildings across the country, and alternatives such as Freecell or Spider also became popular.
2. Euchre
Euchre is on the list of one of our most popular card games of all time. The game was played in two teams and was first introduced to North America in the late 1800s. It is because of the euchre that all of our modern cards now include a joke.
Only nine, ten cards, a jack, a queen, a king, and an ace are used for euchre play. The main goal of the game is for each team to win as many tricks as possible and get higher points than the opposing team.
While some versions of the game require betting, most tournaments are played for fun, and only points accumulate. The winning teams want to brag about the pot instead of the pot as has always been the case during the launch.
The Euchre Games are a popular past, and many of these competitions can last days as teams compete to climb to the top with the goal of winning.
3. Go Fish!
It is probably not surprising that Go Fish is listed as one of our most popular card games of all time. This game is popular among kids of all ages, and, for many, is the first card game online they have learned to play – their first experience using a deck of cards!
The original Go Fish roots may be linked to a variety of card games played in Chinese culture for centuries but its first appearance in America dates back to 1984 when an eight-year-old boy introduced the rules we are all familiar with today. . .
What makes Go Fish! so popular that it is easy to learn and quick to play. Most games take only ten to fifteen minutes to complete and can be played anywhere from two to ten people.
The game uses a standard deck of 52 cards, including jokes, and seven cards are given to each player. The main goal is to ask other players a certain number of cards to make four sets. If another player is unable to give out any of those number cards, he or she will tell the player “he is not fishing!”. They should then draw a card in the middle of the pile.
The game ends when all the cards have been used, and the player with four more sets is considered the winner.

Playing card games is fun for everyone of all ages and requires a small set and nothing more than a deck of cards itself.
